ITE SUPPORT

The Learning Accessibility Office (LAO) ​

The Learning Accessibility Office (LAO) at each ITE College is set up to support students with Special Education Needs (SEN) in their learning process so that students with SEN can have a holistic education, and attain independent living and work skills to gain meaningful employment upon graduation.

Services Available
Students with SEN can approach the LAO at their respective Colleges for assistance to access services needed for their learning, such as:
  • Course counselling
  • Transition support
  • Advice on Assistive Technology  devices
  • Access to facilities
  • Behavioural support
  • Provision of appropriate access arrangements during tests and examinations
  • Industrial attachment
  • Career counselling

​SEN Fund will be set up to help students in ITE with physical or sensory-related impairments purchase Assistive Technology devices and supporting services. A new High-Needs category with a raised subsidy cap will be introduced, Singapore Citizens registered as full-time students in a polytechnic or the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) will now be eligible for higher funding support, if they are professionally certified to have severe physical or sensory impairment.

Examples of Assistive Technology devices and support services include the following:
  • Alternative keyboards
  • Braille displays
  • Braille printers / embossers
  • Computer pointing devices
  • Reading systems
  • Text-to-speech devices
  • Voice recognition technology
  • Word prediction systems
  • Note-taking services
  • Signing interpretation services​
Approved (AAT) devices and support services under MOE SEN Fund (including the High-Needs category)
 

POLYTECHNIC SUPPORT

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit

The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Unit has been specifically set up to cater for students with SEN. It will tap on relevant resources to provide transition and support services to meet the individual needs of our students with SEN:

  • Pre-admission
  • Academic Support Arrangements
  • Access Arrangements for Examinations
  • Assistive Equipment and Support Services
  • Referral to counselling and other support services
  • Special Educational Needs (SEN) Fund ​​

S'pore Poly launches centre for special needs students. Students with special needs will now be able to borrow tools to help their learning at the first Special Education Needs (SEN) centre at an institute of higher learning here. There is also a soundproof room and a lounge available for rest.

The Student Care team is committed to provide students the opportunity to participate in the rich and diverse life here in SIT. ​SEN Fund
NAFA does not benefit from the SEN Fund disbursed by the Singapore Ministry of Education to polytechnics and ITE colleges. However, NAFA is committed to provide the same support for students enrolled into our full time diploma and degree programmes and has set up its own NAFA SEN Fund.

SSI Courses - Creative Therapy for Working with Persons with Special Needs: Art Therapy
​SSG funding is available for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents only. VCF funding is available for foreigners who are staff of member VWOs of NCSS via Direct Training Application.

MA in ART THERAPY​
As an Art Therapist, you purposefully facilitate an art-making process to promote create self-expression, reflection, understanding and change with people and/or communities who encounter a range of stress, trauma, physical, mental or societal challenges and experiences.

The Dare To Dream Scholarship is awarded to new Diploma students with special needs, who have demonstrated good performance, track record, and/or relevant experience in his or her chosen field of study. More about Dare to Dream.
