How do we choose books, that can support the learning better?
When we choose books, it is best to take note on Learning Styles of the individual. Below are a few suggestions that can be helpful.
Books that does not overload on visual information is a better book. Especially when you have too many words and pictures that fill up every corner. Remember that text layouts, too many colours, too many information in one single page, can easily overload a person.
- Simpler Layouts, more space separating sections, less clutter.
- Books with long clear explanations and answers right next to questions (Promotes self learning skills)

Try to expand the learning Multi-Sensorially.
We can help learning better by bringing more mediums, for the child to associate better, and relate better to the topic. Sometimes we can invite their favourite cartoon or interests to accompany or join in the learning.
Sometimes allowing a favourite plushy into the lesson helps to give joy in learning for younger kids. I called a panda bear lesson - MATH WITH PANDIE! Try to keep the curriculum not rushed, space out time for practical exercises to emphasize on what they had learnt. The internet has a wealth of information that can help to expand on a single topic: Eg. Lions (different types of lions, different landscapes lions live in, different parts of lion body). You can hunt for specific websites that already support the topic in a wealth of information like NATGEO.
For older individuals it still applies. A topic like "Industrial Revolution" has many countries stories that are linked to it. The more they associate, the better understanding it generates. Those animated videos that you see from the links in the secondary learning pages have all been chosen carefully. Take a look at BrainPOP website for primary school general knowledge and science animated videos!
- Create a cheerful motivator for younger kids
- Slow down and wait for child to process the info, like digesting food slower helps to gain nutrients better.
- Try to use the internet. Google the subject, show more visuals of the same thing, in different settings.
- Try to find Animated Videos that explain the topic as well. These animated videos are painstakingly made to help learners learn.
